The regulation ensures that passengers receive compensation when their flights are delayed, canceled, or denied boarding.
This website is a convenient way to get in touch with us, and it also provides access to several valuable tools concerning EU 261 and your rights.
Introduction to EU 261
The "EU261" consumer protection law is one of the most significant pieces of legislation passed by the European Union. It allows airlines to compensate customers whose flights were canceled or delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Under the law, customers are entitled to compensation for time and money lost due to airline faults. It also shields travelers from the repercussions of airline-caused delays and cancellations. When they are delayed or unable to board the plane, they will receive fair compensation from the airline.
The following describes the eligibility for EU 261:
non-eu carrier inside the european union
EU country to non-EU country with an EU carrier
non-eu country to eu country using EU-Based airline
non-eu carrier inside the european union
LATE CHECK-IN PASSENGERS
Although Switzerland and Norway are not member states of the European Union, their flights are still subject to legislation.
New legislation was passed to fill the regulatory void left by Britain's exit from the EU. This new legislation will continue to provide the same protections to UK residents.
To comply with these new regulations, all airlines operating within the EU must provide their passengers with a copy of their rights as European Union citizens. This notification should be posted on the airline’s website or at check-in counters and ticket kiosks.
Delayed Flight Compensation
Airlines must provide a minimum compensation amount to passengers if their flights are delayed for more than three hours. Apart from food and lodging expenses, the passengers are entitled to receive up to €600 per day for long-haul flights over 3,500 kilometers. The compensation is less for shorter trips, such as those that are shorter than 1,500 kilometers.
The compensation amount varies depending on the notice given to passengers before their flight is canceled.
EU 261 also provides travelers with help, access to numerous services, and compensation for missed connections or flight cancellations. Those waiting longer than two hours should have necessities, including food, water, and medical attention. If a passenger's flight is delayed until the next day, they should be given a place to stay.
In the event of a flight delay of more than five hours, the passenger is entitled to a full refund or a new flight. Travelers can request a full refund on their tickets if the flight is no longer needed.
In addition, airlines are responsible for keeping customers apprised of their flight's status and the causes of any delays. Customers will be updated on their expected arrival time and the specifics of the delay. This data should be made available within two hours following the first cancellation or delay notification.
